Phentermine

Phentermine (Adipex-P) is one of the most commonly prescribed weight loss medications in the United States.  This medication helps to promote weight loss by decreasing appetite or increasing satiety (the feeling of being full).  It also makes you feel less hungry by increasing one or more chemical hormones in the brain that affect mood and appetite

There are a number of risks/side affects associated with the use of prescription weight loss medication.  The most common include increased blood pressure and heart rate, headache, dry mouth, constipation, and insomnia.

Individuals with poorly controlled hypertension, heart disease, irregular heart rate, or history of cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke, etc) should not take prescription weight loss medications.  Precaution should be taken in all patients with a history of abnormal blood pressures, overactive thyroid gland, and/or glaucoma.

All patients taking prescription weight loss medications should be monitored on a regular basis.  Refills will not be given without office visit or evaluation.
